The Trussed Rafter Association is the only organisation exclusively representing the trussed rafter industry. With membership open to all organisations involved with or an interest in trussed rafters, our members come from across the complete supply chain and are united by a commitment to stringent standards of quality and service to their customers.

The TRA is the recognised voice of the trussed rafter industry, promoting our industry and protecting its interests. With your support our voice, and our industry, will become even stronger.

Participation & Representation

  • Membership puts you at the heart of the industry and enables you to know about changes that might affect your business. We represent our members' views on a range of industry and standards setting bodies such as Code Committees, NHBC, BRE, TRADA and the HSE.

  • The TRA requires all its members to have an approved Quality Assurance System and Professional Indemnity (PI) insurance. This provides customer confidence in our members and their products giving them a distinct advantage in the marketplace.
  • Help with QA accreditation is available with a package of economical, easy to access measures including a Quality Manual template and consultancy advice from people who understand your business and will help you achieve certification.
  • Collateral Warranty - The TRA has a form of Collateral Warranty, approved by its insurers, for you to use to protect your interests. PR and Marketing.
  • An easy to access, easy to use TRA website. Membership guarantees promotion of your business on the website, with links to your own website, effectively guiding sales leads to your business.
  • Web search facility - the website includes a search facility to allow clients to locate a truss fabricator in their area.

  • The TRA's own Health & Safety Committee works closely with the HSE to ensure fair and just interpretation and implementation of health and safety legislation affecting our industry.
  • A range of 'Members Only' Risk Assessment templates on a range of industry issues.
  • Guidance documents written in conjunction with the HSE e.g. PDS 9 - Health & Safety Policy for the Loading, Haulage, Delivery and Erection of Trussed Rafters on-site - a Definition of Responsibility.
  • Advanced warning on health and safety campaigns and methods to satisfy HSE requirements.
  • Advice and guidance on accidents / incidents in the industry.
  • Advice and guidance on Construction, Design, Management (CDM) Regulations.

Technical Support

  • A dedicated Technical Committee to give advice and guidance on technical issues such as the implementation of EC5 (Euro Code 5).
  • A dedicated industry consultant to monitor Regulations and Standards on your behalf.
  • The TRA is the recognised source of technical guidance and information on trussed rafters.
  • Regular updates on technical matters via the 'Members Only' TRA Digest newsletter.
  • A comprehensive range of Product Data Sheets to support the use and specification of trussed rafters, e.g. Bracing of Attic Trusses, Loft Conversions, Chimney & Hatch Openings etc.
  • A series of free 'Members Only' Technical Bulletins on a specific technical topics e.g. 'Trimming of Attic Trusses', 'Storage Loading', 'Wind Girders' and many more.
  • Lobbying National and European Codes & Standards committees to ensure impractical legislation is not put onto the industry. For example TR26 grade timber was only retained in the grading standards due to extensive pressure from the TRA.
  • Assessment and consultation on market or product changes.

  • An excellent online training course aimed at trussed rafter designers, developed specifically for us by Napier University.
  • Seminars on a range of topics relevant to the industry.

Cost Savings

  • TRA members have access to competitive rates of Professional Indemnity (PI) insurance from the TRA's preferred broker, who understands the industry and its risks. These savings alone can offset the membership fees.
  • A 50% saving on the cost of the TRA's online training course, compared to non-members. Depending on the size of your business, this discount can cover the cost of your membership.
  • Special 'Members Only' rates for TRA publications, including the highly regarded TRA Handbook.
