Cambridge Roof Truss was delighted to supply an intricate roofing solution for Millgate Developments Ltd who is an established housebuilder in the Berkshire, Surrey, Buckinghamshire, West Sussex, Kent and Oxfordshire areas.

Beechcrest is an elegant collection of eight luxury apartments and penthouses located in the sought after surroundings of Beaconsfield and the Chiltern Hills, built to the highest standards and offering spacious living.

Millgate has a desire for individuality and hand-built craftsmanship, coupled with meticulous attention to design, specification and architectural integrity. Cambridge Roof Truss was able to demonstrate the same ethos for excellence and its experience in design was certainly put to the test with this challenging project which involved a very elegant finished roof profile to be built up on a concrete slab.

Throughout the design process, Cambridge Roof Truss’s designers worked closely with Millgate’s technical project team to overcome the challenges that a multi-level roof presents from design to installation.

The roof trusses were to sit on the wallplate fixed mechanically to the slab. Cambridge Roof Truss designed mono trusses around the perimeter of the roof, which created the room verticals and the rafters created the sloping ceiling. High level lattice trusses were sat to span between the steel structure, creating a large flat multi-level roof.

The lattice trusses were designed with a pitched top-chord to negate the need for firrings, therefore saving both materials expense and time on site for the carpenters.

With steels sitting at different levels, but with a continuous ceiling level required throughout the building, attention to detail was paramount. With the inclusion of a very large flat dormer at the rear of the property, a large lattice truss helped solve a potential issue in an area where minimal deflection was a priority. Another factor to consider was the snowloadings applied and designing to EC5 using MiTeks Pamir software which helped the process run smoothly.

Commenting on the project, Jack McMinn, Managing Director of Cambridge Roof Truss said:

“We have a great team of highly creative designers, and their expertise and knowledge was essential in achieving a perfect result for our client Millgate Developments Ltd, on what was from the outset, a technically challenging brief”.
