Shire Timber completed its largest roof contract to date – the design, supply and installation of a large Extra Care Facility in Stoke-on-Trent. The contract comprised of trussed rafters and associated items, spandrel panels, plywood sarking and flat roofs.
The design and manufacture was undertaken inhouse and co-ordinated on site by Shire Timber’s experienced Contracts Manager with one of its top installation teams, completing the installation on time and to the satisfaction of the client.
The roof structure took over 6 months to install, with an order value in excess of half a million pounds. Shire Timber provided all its own crane hire for safe lifting and positioning of the roof structure. The lifting operations were carefully planned by its Appointed Person and executed on site by its Lifting Supervisor and Slinger Banksman. A TRAD safety deck system was supplied throughout by Shire Timber and erected by its team of qualified installers. This provided the joiners with a safe internal working platform and fall prevention system during erection.
Due to the height of the trusses and the logistical issues involved to safely brace the ridge and erect the plywood sarking, Shire Timber used its vast experience in the supply and erection market to install the roof structure and produce contract specific Risk Assessments and Method Statements for the safe erection of the works.
