National Timber Systems (NTS), the engineered wood products division of National Timber Group, has promoted Philip Carney to the role of Technical and Innovation Director.
Philip joined NTS to head up the NTSROOF team in 2020. He has over 30 years’ experience in the industry covering all engineered timber products.
He began his career in 1990 at Marlows Timber Engineering as a design engineer, then became a technical sales manager at Trus Joist Macmillan. In 2008 he moved to the Building Research Establishment, followed by the British Board of Agrément.
Nick Kershaw, Managing Director of NTS said: “Philip has been the driving force in the development of the original market-leading NTSROOF and the creation of new NTSROOF products.
“He brings a unique blend of experience and technical knowledge across construction product manufacturing, research and certification, and I am delighted to welcome him to the senior management team.”
NTS provides products for housebuilders, developers and the modular sector nationally. The division has a turnover of almost £50m and employs 240 people at four manufacturing sites across England. A fifth site employing over 100 people will open later this year in the Midlands.
Philip Carney, NTS Technical and Innovation Director said: “I am very proud to have been promoted to this new role at a time of significant growth for NTS. I will be overseeing all our product development including the NTSROOF range.
“We will launch a number of new products this year, including integrated floor and wall cassettes and larger span roofs incorporating PV technology.
“We always look to be genuinely innovative. For example, NTSROOF has thermal values which help housebuilders to be 2021 Part L compliant, and it can provide roofing solutions with industry-leading unsupported spans of over 9 metres.
“Our aim is that our customers have less to do on-site, and reap all the benefits of off-site manufacturing such as product dimensional accuracy, speed of build, and improved health and safety through reduced time working at height.”
