Roofscape Awards 2026 – the shortlist announced!

We are very excited to announce the shortlist of contenders for the Roofscape Awards 2026.  The judges were delighted to receive a record number of entries received this year – and blown away by the breadth and quality of entries.

The final winners will be announced at the Roofscape Awards Ceremony and the TRA Members Dinner on Thursday 23 April 2026. We look forward to to seeing you there!

Project Awards

These awards recognise projects that set the standard for design excellence in the trussed rafter and metal web sectors. The shortlisted nominations are:

Conversion and Refurbishment

  • Dalnarrow Cottage – Pasquill
    The truss going up at Dalnarrow Cottage

    An old derelict croft building has been reworked into a new beautiful home that retains the original building’s character. Close collaboration with the clients resulted in a clean and simple full-length Girder Truss.
    Judges’ note: “Innovative truss design has been used to achieve a curved inner ceiling, reducing site work and safety risks, in a challenging remote location.”

  • Pilgrim’s Quarter – Donaldson Timber Engineering
    Donaldson Timber Engineering played a pivotal role in the Pilgrim’s Quarter regeneration project in Newcastle. One of the most distinctive features of the scheme is the reinstatement of a historic dome that once crowned the Carliol House building – using Donaldson’s engineered timber trussed rafters for a solution.
    Judges’ note: “A monumental project, challenging perceptions of what can be achieved with trussed rafters in terms of structural design, safety and sustainability.”
  • Restoring the dome at Pilgrim’s Quarter (Donaldson Timber Engineering)

    Pineways – Triad Timber Components
    An existing bungalow has been transformed into a two-storey dwelling, thanks to  a new first-floor posi-joist system and a timber frame structure that provides strength and flexibility for the complex roof design.
    Judges’ note: “Demonstrates how sustainability ambitions can meet the challenges of planning restraints. It appears simple on the outside, but is technically complex within.”

 Commercial

  • Groby Road Care Home – Wyckham Blackwell
    Groby Road care home (Wyckham Blackwell)

    A new care home build with an overall roof area of 2045m²: the roof is split over two levels, with 2- and 3-storey areas comprised of 72 bedrooms, large communal dayrooms, cafes, cinema rooms, as well as working areas such as plant rooms and staff rooms..
    Judges’ note: “Innovative in terms of utilising trussed rafters and other engineered wood products to create the free-spanning mansard overhang plus custom spandrel panel solutions.”

  • North Walls Cricket Pavilion – Triad Timber Components
    Work in progress at North Walls Cricket Club (Triad Timber Components)

    Triad designed and installed a truss rafter and glulam feature truss roof for the Winchester Cricket Pavilion at North Walls Recreation Ground..
    Judges’ note: “Maximising the use of technology delivered a safely constructed, sustainable, community-focused project that is beautiful to look at.”

  • Potter Court (Acorn Timber Engineering)

    Potter Court – Acorn Timber Engineering
    A purpose-built retirement development, providing 56 affordable homes for residents aged 55 and over.
    Judges’ note: “A big technical challenge on the project was ably overcome: managing the complexity of the roof structure, comprising of more than 650 individual trusses, including 38 standard truss types and 48 different valley trusses.”

 Residential

  • Covert House – Wyckham Blackwell
    An imposing residential home situated in a secluded spot on the outskirts of Long Buckby, Northamptonshire. It comprises of three main parts; a curved Left Wing, a curved Right Wing and a central section that includes a 4-storey castle style turret.
    Judges’ note: “An excellent, technically detailed entry fully supported with information on the sustainability and safety criteria of the project.”
  • Waterside PH4 – Donaldson Timber Engineering
    Part of an ongoing development in West London, the M4 house has a narrow, up and over roofscape with asymmetric 2.5 storey raised tie trusses.
    Judges’ note: “An entry that illustrates the value in partnership, showing the benefits of involving the truss designer at an early stage.”
  • Assembly of truss for the residential project Tigh Dubh (Pasquill)

    Tigh Dubh – Pasquill
    A three-bedroom, one-and-a-half story T-shaped building located on the Isle of Tiree. One particular distinctive feature is that the top of the roof is curved instead of coming to the usual apex.
    Judges’ note: “Innovative design saw the attic trusses separated from the curved top hats, simplifying the manufacture and the logistics.”

The TRA Roofscape Individual Awards recognise the achievements of team members who go the extra mile. These awards are sponsored by the System companies and a prize of £250 will be awarded to the winner of each category. The shortlisted nominations are:

The Roofscape Awards and Dinner take place after the TRA’s Annual General Meeting.  Please use this link to reserve your place at the AGM.

This annual event offers a unique opportunity to reflect on the TRA’s achievements in 2025 and explore plans and priorities for 2026 and beyond.
