Building Bridges for the Next Generation of Timber Industry Professionals
19th December 2023The Trussed Rafter Association (TRA) was recently invited to attend the Timber Industry College Hub event, which was held at the Building Crafts College in Stratford, East London.
The Timber Industry College Hub is a joint initiative developed by the Institute of Carpenters (IOC), Timber Development UK (TDUK), the TRA and other partners in the timber sector.
It aims to showcase to students the various employment opportunities available from the UK and international timber supply chain to career paths with timber merchants or timber frame design and manufacturing.
TRA chief executive Nick Boulton, attended the event and spoke to 75 students and staff raising TRA’s profile. He said:
“It is refreshing to have the opportunity to speak to the professionals of the future and their teachers. The Timber Industry College Hub is a great initiative for the timber industry to forge closer links with education providers and builds a bridge with people who will become the next generation in our industry.”
The Building Crafts College is an Education Charity supported by the Worshipful Company of Carpenters. The college accepts students of all ages and from all walks of life who wish to pursue excellence and outstanding craftsmanship in their chosen field.
Further events will take place during 2024 at colleges around the UK which offer specific timber qualifications such as Site Carpentry and Bench Joinery.
