Introducing Timber Typologies
21st July 2023Timber Typologies is a new guide published by Timber Development UK (TDUK) to help clear up the confusion around timber building systems and their applications.
Aimed at designers, housebuilders, developers, investors and policymakers, the guide tackles the misunderstanding that limits the use of timber and threatens construction’s carbon reduction targets.
For the industry to meet carbon reduction targets, it is important for designers and architects to address the misconceptions and misinformation around the use of timber.
Written by Waugh Thistleton Architects, one of the leading ‘timber first’ architectural practices in the UK, the book is intended to be used as a primer or beginner’s guide to the variety of timber solutions available.
It will help decision-makers understand the options opening to them, and enable the right choices to deliver the best outcomes.
Nick Boulton says: “Timber is essential for decarbonising construction. However, to realise its full potential, we must be specific about the systems and approaches and the benefits each of these can bring.
“All TRA members should promote this guide to their customers and other stakeholders – it’s vital that everyone has better information about the variety of timber systems and options which exist.”
