Roofscape Design Awards returns with new categories

The Roofscape Design Awards is now open for entries.
Following two highly successful years, this year’s awards will feature three new individual categories, highlighting achievements in sustainability, health and safety, and emerging talent.
The new categories reflect the TRA’s commitment to celebrating not only outstanding projects but also the individual’s driving innovation and best practices within the trussed rafter industry.
What’s more, the TRA has created dedicated entry guides for designers and TRA member employers to learn more about the categories, and how to enter.
Project categories
The Roofscape Design Awards 2025 will see the three project-based categories, which are:
- Commercial Project of the Year
Recognising excellence in non-residential projects, from offices to public buildings. - Conversion and Refurbishment Project of the Year
Celebrating innovative designs for transforming or improving existing buildings. - Residential Project of the Year
Honouring outstanding design and craftsmanship in new-build housing.
Individual categories:
The new individual categories are as follows:
- Innovation Champion of the Year
Recognising individuals leading technological, sustainability and operational innovation. - Safety Champion of the Year
Celebrating dedication to maintaining and promoting safe practices within the trussed rafter industry. - Career Development Champion
Recognising individuals showing dedication to their ongoing training and professional development.
The Roofscape Design Awards aim to highlight the often-overlooked design skills within the trussed rafter sector. As Nick Boulton, chief executive of the TRA, explains:
“Trussed rafters are a widely used modern method of roof construction made from nature’s most sustainable building material—timber. Although it is estimated that there are about 60 million trussed rafters in service in the UK today, the design skills involved in their construction are often underappreciated within the construction industry.
“The Roofscape Design Awards will showcase the problem-solving capabilities of roof truss designers, while also positioning timber engineering design as an attractive and rewarding career path for the next generation. The entries from 2023 and 2024 were nothing short of exceptional, and we are excited to see the beautifully completed projects of 2024.”
Entry Details
The Roofscape Design Awards are open to all TRA member companies in the UK and Ireland. Entry is free to encourage wide participation. Winners will be announced during the TRA AGM in April 2025.
