Schemes and courses required to boost apprenticeships

19th June 2019

Recognised schemes and relevant courses came out as the key requirements to improve apprenticeships within the trussed rafter sector, thanks to the recent TRA apprenticeship survey.

Various companies responded, the smallest employing just five people and the largest with 472 employees. From these businesses the split of those with and without apprentices was 50/50.

Of those surveyed two thirds felt the apprenticeship recruitment process was reasonably easy. However, the others found it more laborious and cited this as a negative point when it comes to taking on an apprentice. The apprentices have taken on various roles, from design through to IT machinery support.

The TRA is working to encourage more young people into the sector, so a big thank you to those who responded to the apprenticeship survey. It has provided a useful insight into what needs to be addressed. Our training project group will be looking to produce a list of recognised schemes and relevant courses that members can access.
