Roofscape Design Awards 2026: winners announced

29th April 2026

This year’s Roofscape Awards celebrated the year’s best trussed rafter and metal web projects – and the people who bring them about. After a packed Annual Members’ Day, the awards really brought home just how much talent there is in our industry. Congratulations to all the worthy winners.

The judges had a tough job this year. We received a record number of entries in all categories, showcasing a very diverse range of projects, and we hugely appreciate the time and effort that all entrants put into their entries. And the winners are…

Project Awards

North Walls Cricket Pavilion, winner of the 2026 Commercial category

🏆Commercial

North Walls Cricket Pavilion, Triad Timber Components Limited
Triad designed and installed a truss rafter and glulam feature truss roof for the Winchester Cricket Pavilion at North Walls Recreation Ground. The structure itself is distinctive, featuring an arrowhead-shaped footprint.

At its widest point, the roof spans 22
metres, narrowing to 9 meters, with an overall building length of 28 metres. This unique geometry required careful
planning to ensure both functionality and aesthetic appeal.

“A major challenge was the 1-metre overhangs below the bottom chord, outside of the plate, which needed to
accommodate a box gutter,” recalls Stephen Fuller, Triad’s designer on the project. “This became even more complex when the client requested that the overhangs support retractable canopies along the exterior of the building. We achieved this by designing girder trusses specifically to
carry the additional load.”

“Maximising the use of technology has delivered a safely constructed, sustainable, community-focused project that is beautiful to look at,” concluded the judges.

🏆Conversion & Refurbishment

Truss work on display at Dalnarrow Cottage

Dalnarrow Cottage, Pasquill
An old derelict croft building has been reworked into a new beautiful home that successfully retains all the original building’s character.  Close collaboration with the clients resulted in a clean and simple full-length Girder Truss.

“Really listening to our customers’ challenges and understanding their vision allowed us to come up with an effective design solution,” recalls Eve Macdonald, Pasquill’s designer for the project.

“Innovative truss design has been used to achieve a curved inner ceiling,” the judges noted. “This reduced site work and safety risks in a challenging remote location.”

🏆Residential

Waterside PH, Donaldson Timber Engineering
Part of an ongoing development in West London, the Waterside PH distinguishes itself with a narrow, up-and-over roofscape and asymmetric 2.5 storey raised tie trusses.

Waterside PH, winner in the 2026 Residential category

“For what looks a relatively simple roof on plan, the moment we tried to use any standard detail we ran into a challenge to be solved,” recalls James Tothill of Donaldson. “It truly pays to put in the early work.”

“This is a winner that illustrates the value in partnership,” the judges said. “It demonstrates all the benefits of involving the truss designer at an early stage.”

Individual Awards

These recognise the achievements of team members who go the extra mile. Thanks to the System companies, a prize of £250 was awarded to the winner of each Individual category.

🏆Career Development Champion

🏆Innovation Champion
Lee Kent, Donaldson Timber Engineering

Winners and representatives from the winning teams, with their awards trophies on the night

Lee won this award for demonstrating that innovation can be achieved through incremental steps – and proving that innovation applies to processes as much as products. He had the leadership skills to develop a site team that have the skills and knowledge that support continuous development and improvement.

🏆Safety Champion
Steve Hoult, Crendon Timber Engineering Ltd

Steve’s positive leadership sets an exceptional standard in operational safety. His work shows that although our products can be challenging it is possible to manufacture, store and deliver them safely.
