Winners of the Roofscape Design Awards 2025
22nd April 2025
The winners of the 2025 Roofscape Design Awards were proudly announced during this year’s TRA AGM and Conference.
Now in its third year, the awards continue to shine a light on the very best in roofscape design, recognising not just technical excellence, but also innovation, sustainability, and a strong commitment to health and safety.
New for 2025 were three individual award categories, giving well-deserved recognition to the talented people behind the scenes at TRA member companies. It was an opportunity to celebrate those who go above and beyond in their roles.
The six award categories this year were: Commercial Project of the Year, Conversion and Refurbishment Project of the Year, Residential Project of the Year, Career Champion of the Year, Innovation Champion of the Year, and Safety Champion of the Year.
Judges were thoroughly impressed by the standard of entries. From tackling complex roof structures to finding clever, sustainable solutions, the submissions showcased an incredible range of skills and dedication.
It was a reminder of just how much talent and expertise exist across the industry.
Project winners
Commercial Project of the Year
Learning Disability and Autism (LDA) Unit, Langdon Hospital – Jamie Underwood, Crendon Timber Engineering
This ambitious project impressed judges with its technical complexity and highly detailed drawings. The large metal web joist scheme involved multiple intersecting elements, all expertly handled to deliver a safe and sustainable structure.
A key challenge was the integration of a critical vapour barrier, which was thoughtfully considered in both the design and execution. Jamie’s submission demonstrated a strong grasp of the project’s intricacies and showcased excellent attention to detail across the board.
Conversion and Refurbishment Project of the Year
The Engine House – Elicia Brumley, Acorn Timber Engineering
This large and complex conversion project stood out for its long spans, shallow pitches, and the added complexities of accommodating MVHR systems and maintenance access.
Elicia provided an exceptionally well-rounded entry, with comprehensive details on health and safety, sustainability, and design execution. Her clear and complete application allowed the judges to fully understand the scope of work, the technical challenges involved, and the skill required to deliver such a high-quality result. It was an excellent demonstration of engineering precision and thoughtful planning.
Residential Project of the Year
Plots 1 and 2, Knowle Road – Ranjit Gill, Wyckham Blackwell
Ranjit’s design delivered on a demanding brief: reduce the need for a steel frame and avoid a cut roof.
This technically challenging project involved steep pitches, vaulted and flat roof sections, and rooms in the roof, all executed with skill and attention to detail. The judges praised the strong emphasis on safety and sustainability, alongside the successful navigation of numerous design hurdles. Ranjit’s entry demonstrated his ability to meet the client’s expectations while maintaining the highest standards in roofscape design.
Individual champions
Career Champion of the Year
Jack West-Jordan, Crendon Timber Engineering. For outstanding support in training, mentoring, and developing new talent in the industry.
Innovation Champion of the Year
Sam Kirkham and Craig Smith, ITW Construction Products. Jointly recognised for driving innovation in technology, sustainability, and product development.
Safety Champion of the Year
Ed Kirk, Crendon Timber Engineering. Celebrated for his dedication to maintaining and promoting safety standards in the trussed rafter sector.
