Pasquill, the largest manufacturer and supplier of roof trusses in the UK, and Jewson Orkney, the UK’s leading builders’ merchant, have joined forces to supply materials for a large domestic project in Scotland.
The single structure dwelling boasts a floor area of approximately 950m2, which is exceptionally large in comparison to the average domestic dwelling size of around 90m.
The project began in 2015, when Gary Stanger of joiners, R. Stanger Ltd, requested a design feasibility and budget cost from Jewson Orkney. This was to provide the roof trusses, ironmongery and loose materials required for the job.
Donald Matheson, Senior Designer at Pasquill Inverness has an excellent relationship with Jonathan Batty from Jewson Orkney, so Jonathan came directly to Donald for help with the specification.
Donald helped Gary at R. Stanger regarding the complex design and provided the joiner with a budget cost for supplying the roof, allowing him to go back to his client with a cost for building the overall house.
Pasquill supplied attic trusses, standard trusses, mono trusses, cap trusses and glulam beams for this project, and the completed attic roof comprised doglegs, three-way intersections, hip end, bay roofs and fully vaulted areas.
Jewson Orkney also provided other materials required to complete the project. This included Redland roofing products, insulation from Recticel, and plasterboard from British Gypsum among many other products.
Given its island location, delivery was a challenge, and all the trusses needed to be precisely designed so they could be transported to site.
The delivery of roof trusses in Aberdeen was sent through the docks, shipped to Kirkwall on a ferry and then delivered to site from the docks. Due to its large size, the roof was split into three separate deliveries a couple of weeks apart to allow the joiner to assemble it a section at a time.
Jonathan commented: “Pasquill’s technical ability, knowledge and expertise make them our trusted partner for all of our roof truss enquiries. Working in partnership with Pasquill allows us to offer our customers the complete package when it comes to projects like this.
“It also makes things easier for our customers being able to source all materials from one source. Despite the sheer scale and remote location of this project, we managed to successfully complete the order leaving the customer very happy.”
Ross Baxter, MD of Pasquill added: “The success of this project is down to the excellent relationship between Jewson Orkney and our Inverness team. The staff at Pasquill Inverness have an incredible local reputation and vast design experience and technical capabilities, with the team of seven designers boasting a combined design experience of 100 years!”
