The TRA Roofscape Design Awards 2023 is open for entries
13th March 2023This new awards scheme has been launched by the Trussed Rafter Association to celebrate the ingenuity and technical skills of designers in the roofing sector.
The awards will recognise projects that showcase the highest standard in design, innovation, and sustainability in the use of timber trussed rafter roofs. The awards will be given in three categories:
- Residential Project of the Year (for newbuild dwellings)
- Conversion and Refurbishment Project of the Year (for existing housing projects)
- Commercial Project of the Year (for all non-domestic projects)
Nick Boulton, chief executive of the TRA says:
“The highly technical skills required in the design of trussed rafter roofs are not yet fully recognised or rewarded in the housebuilding and construction industry. Trussed rafters are manufactured using modern methods of construction (MMC) which reduces on site labour costs. Yet some of the projects worked on by TRA members are extraordinarily complex and clever.
“This is what we want to shine a spotlight on, to demonstrate the designers’ problem-solving and spatial ingenuity at work, to give credit where it is due, and to showcase timber engineering design as a very attractive career for talented people.
“The Roofscape Awards recognises and promotes the exceptional design work that has been completed by our members in 2022.
“The use of wood as a building material is not only environmentally sustainable, but also highlighting the beautiful roof designs imaginable. It is time to celebrate the beautifully completed projects of 2022.”
The Roofscape Design Awards are now open for submissions from all TRA members in the UK and Ireland. A panel of experts in timber engineering, architecture and sustainable design will judge the entries and select the winners. The award winners will be announced at the TRA’s AGM, conference and dinner at Kettering Park Hotel on 20th April.
The deadline for submissions midnight on 31st March 2023, and all entries must be submitted online. There is no fee to enter, and members can submit as many projects as they wish.
